BREEN have committed to reducing waste-to-landfill by contracting Waste Management to collect and recycle construction waste on construction and build sites. Waste Management provide monthly reports showing % recycled versus % waste-to-landfill each month.
Carbon Footprint of BREEN home
BREEN have measured the Embodied Carbon and Operational Efficiency of a standard BREEN home plus four other variations of the build. A set of Infographics have been created from the footprint data to be used as a tool by the sales and design team to show how changing building materials impacts on creating a warmer home that uses less energy and has a smaller carbon footprint.
Paper-less Office
BREEN have implemented systems to greatly reduce the use of paper in the administrative arm of the business.
Carbon Footprint of BREEN Business Operations
EKOS have assisted BREEN in measuring BREEN’s second year for their business operations Carbon Footprint. Breen are currently writing their Emissions Reduction Plan and will align with Science Based Targets ambitious emissions reduction goals to reduce BREEN's emissions. BREEN will focus initially on their two largest emissions sources: vehicle emissions and waste.
Vehicles
BREEN have invested in leasing and purchasing EV and Hybrid vehicles. The Emissions Reduction Plan will address emissions reductions from vehicles in the short, medium and long term. BREEN have a substantial vehicle fleet and this requires careful planning to tranistion the fleet to low emission vehicles.
A planting project in Alexandra, Central Otago with Haehaeata Natural Heritage Trust is in the pipeline.
