A richly textured and contoured façade belies the tough functional requirements demanded in brief for this project. Sited in a sensitive environmental zone subject to intense, prolonged public scrutiny and significant natural obstacles over many years this building nonetheless proudly marks its presence. An articulated form in combination with complementary material selections break down the building mass and will allow it to further visually bed into its environment over time. The design speaks of a generosity of spirit and sensitivity that has won over its detractors to become a regularly used community hub enjoyed widely and proves good architecture can contribute to the amenity and appreciation of such locations.
