Central Dental

Cromwell

The project is a ‘Design Build’ of Central Dental’s new facility, and comprises a Plant Room, X-Ray Room, Sterilisation Room, 6 specialist surgery rooms, Recovery Room, Laboratory, Office, Waiting Room, Accessible toilet and shower.

The building is designed with specialist services to accommodate the latest dental technology, including reverse osmosis, water supply, oxygen, and suction equipment. There will be six fully computerised dental chairs, equipped with state-of-the-art hardware.

Co-owner Ben Paterson said the main reason for the new premises was to build a larger patient base to allow the business to offer more services in Central Otago, and attract specialists, to save people travelling to Dunedin.

Project Manager, Phil Cheney, said Breen invested a large amount of time in the planning and coordination of the installation of all specialist services inside the new building, as well as all other trades, to realise an excellent outcome.

Phil said locating the services in the right place under the floor slab was critical to the project’s success, “from the plant room to the dedicated outlets,” before the concrete floor was laid.

Having worked in the Commercial building sector in Auckland before moving South in 2016, Phil has first-hand experience with large-scale medical fit-outs.

Construction Manager and Company Director, Trevor Breen, said the team worked with the client collaboratively to design a modern dentistry building that was capable of growth to meet the future needs of the Cromwell community.

“The building is very practical and basic in its structure. The complexity comes from understanding and designing the service requirements of a modern dental practice.”
